Hi, I’m Dr Judith, and I’m one of the principal dentists here at Elevate Dental.
Yesterday, I was speaking with one of my patients, Adam, who asked me how often he should come back to have his teeth checked, so I thought I’d make a video to share my thoughts.

The number one reason why it’s important to have regular dental checkups is it saves money. Small problems, small money. Big problems, big money. When we catch problems when they’re still small, it’s a lot easier to fix. It’s a lot faster to fix too.
Maintaining teeth is similar to maintaining a car. When you get your car regularly serviced and checked, you know that the chance of it breaking down in the middle of the road and needing expensive repairs is going to be low. The same applies to teeth. When we catch problems when they’re small, it’s a lot easier to fix, and it’s a lot faster to fix and it’s cheaper to fix as well. How do you catch them when they’re small? By getting them checked frequently.

The second reason why it’s important to have regular dental checkups is that it saves time. Big problems take time to develop, and they also take time to fix. Catching problems when they’re small means that it takes a lot less time to get everything healthy and functioning again. For example, it takes about 30minutes to 1 hour to have fillings to fix dental decay, compared to having a complete tooth extraction and replacing it with a dental implant. This process can take up to six months, and will cost a lot more.

And the third reason why it’s important to have regular dental checkups is that it helps you stay away from pain. One of the biggest reasons to have your teeth checked is to prevent something that we commonly see, a toothache. They’re painful, inconvenient, and everything in your life will be put on hold because of it. Having regular checkups will not only eliminate your chance of a toothache, but it will also help you know what you can do to help keep your teeth and gums healthy in the longterm.
